The Second Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood,
the Patriarchal Grip, or Sure Sign of the Nail

This token teaches as the previous did, of an outward and inward ordinance that will take place with you and also a covenant that you will receive from God, the difference however is significant as this token and sign, thus the actual ordinance you receive is performed not only by the Lord, but also by the Father and it is by you coming into His presence, into the presence of the Father before the General Assembly of the Church of the First Born, where ALL are first born and this is a fellowship that is had among the gods and also angels who dwell in everlasting burnings. This ordinance primarily takes place on the other side of veil.

Ultimately, all things are had by the Father and according to His good will and pleasure, even the giving of the Holy Ghost comes to us by the will of the Father, the Son does nothing that He has not seen the Father do and does according to the will of His Father, this token and sign also references a personal relationship and connection with the Father as also with the Son, this token and sign also has reference to the Patriarchal Order, patriarch or patriarchal because of the Father, for He is the Great Grand Head of them ALL, whether male or female all are received into this order alike with the Father and the Son.

And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do.(2 Nephi 31:12)

If you know this token, visualize it and how it is given and received, if you do not know this token, you still can learn from what is being taught, to those who are familiar, it then should be apparent in its meaning that it represents both an outward and inward ordinance that takes place with you, both the flesh, sinew, blood, water and spirit as it were are completely and wholly involved, said more simply, the flesh and the spirit are pierced as the Son of God was pierced in his hands and in his wrists. Not only are you held up by Christ in the palm of His hand as the First Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood indicates, you are now held up by the Father and the Son by the sure sign of the nail in the sure place, you are qualified having been proven of by the Lord, having remained faithful, having been washed and anointed by the Son are you cleansed and presented to the Father, He declaring to the Father by testimony that you are His and that you are clean from the blood and sins of this generation and the Father sealing you His by the Holy Spirit of Promise, you having become a Son or Daughter, being filled with the pure love of Christ, these are they who are anointed Kings and Priests, Queens and Priestess unto the Lord God, this is received by coming into the presence of the Father, you having received your Calling of Election and it is Made Sure by the sure sign of the nail in the sure place.

Hence The Second Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the Patriarchal Grip, or Sure Sign of the Nail, or the Nail in the Sure Place has reference to you being sealed up to eternal life by the Holy Spirit of Promise, which the FATHER sheds forth upon all who will hearken to His son and believe upon His name.

The name of this token which is revealed at the veil in the temple has its application now and throughout the eternities, how is it received?! It is received by coming into presence of the Father, where an endowment of light, knowledge, glory and power is revealed, hence you are filled with his glory that you may behold Him, His love that you may know Him, and the joy of a Father having you, a Son or Daughter return to Him, thus having been redeemed from the fall of Adam and Eve, and are approved of by Him having been made holy through the atonement of Christ are anointed by the Father in the presence of the hosts of heaven, before the first born Sons and Daughters of God, and He blesses you, instructs you and imparts knowledge to you as well as other things, things that cannot be revealed, nor does man have power to reveal them or make them known, and these things have their place and timing now and in the eternities and these things are bestowed upon you and your posterity through all generations of time, and throughout all eternity, though it will be a great while after this station of life before you learn all the principles of your exaltation, because simply some of these things can only be learned from beyond the grave, and you too must pass through something like the Son has or something similar, until you obtain to the keys of the resurrection yourselves, which has all power even power over death.

“When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave�? -History of the Church, 6:306–7; from a discourse given by Joseph Smith on Apr. 7, 1844, in Nauvoo, Illinois; reported by Wilford Woodruff, Willard Richards, Thomas Bullock, and William Clayton; see also appendix, page 562, item 3.

“The Holy Ghost is now in a state of probation which if he should perform in righteousness he may pass through the same or a similar course of things that the Son has.” (Joseph Smith, The Words of Joseph Smith, p. 245; Sabbath address, 27 August 1843)

Here, then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all Gods have done before you, namely, by going from one small degree to another, and from a small capacity to a great one; from grace to grace, from exaltation to exaltation, until you attain to the resurrection of the dead, and are able to dwell in everlasting burnings, and to sit in glory, as do those who sit enthroned in everlasting power. And I want you to know that God, in the last days, while certain individuals are proclaiming his name, is not trifling with you or me. (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 346-7)

The sign that is given, symbolizes your reaching up and pulling down the powers of heaven upon you, it also signifies to you of an upward reach and pulling yourself up to the third heaven where the Father and Son are that they may hear all the words of your mouth, which also has reference to the knocking at the veil 3 times in order to converse with the Lord, and how do you knock, by praying three times a day in the true order of prayer.

The true order of prayer was suitable for members to pray in this manner in their homes, they even had family prayer altars for this purpose, and also in chapels this took place, especially among the High Council before converging on the days business etc… but by and by, the traditions of men have won out, and a need for control of the people in every aspect have also won out, and those who have sought to take away prayer from the saints altogether, have instructed and forbidden you from praying this way, there is no place in the temple today for lay members where a man or woman, family, couple etc… can go in private and kneel at an altar and offer up the tokens of the priesthood and pray in the true order of prayer, its blasphemous to forbid anyone from praying and if you have knowledge of a way to pray and receive answers then to instruct you and forbid you at the same time from praying this way in your own home or in this manner in the temples, whom do you serve? Who teaches us NOT to pray!

For almost 100 years members could pray this way and they would pray at Sun Rise, Mid-day and as the Sun-sets, offering all the tokens and signs of the priesthood and in this you knock at the veil three times, lifting up holy hands, praying with upraised hands, lift those hands which hang low and cast your eyes heavenward that God and the hosts of heaven may look down and see your face, hear your petitions and all the words of your mouth, and open your hands which fingers are tight,  that you might receive something in the palm of your hand, that He may answer your prayers which are made unto Him in righteousness, that He may add righteousness upon righteousness on you forever more.

“When speaking in one of our general fast meetings, he (Joseph Smith) said that we did not know how to pray and have our prayers answered. But when I and my husband had our endowments…Joseph Smith presiding, he taught us the order of prayer.” (Bathsheba Smith, Juvenile Instructor 27 [1 June 1892]:345.)

There is much more to the keys, tokens, names, and signs of the priesthood – these things have application now in mortality and also beyond the grave, even beyond the veil when you ascend to the throne of the Father to be received by Him, but also of your exaltations, and you continuations from one eternal round until the next until you are able to sit in ever lasting burnings, there is no end to priesthood, there is no end to God… all things are His and are prepared for those who will seek Him, and these teach of Him and the way.

You receive these ordnances from the Lord through your continued obedience to Him, through your continued sacrifices that you will make to Him, you must walk in the foot steps of the Son of God, for He has made the perfect sacrifice and set the perfect example, it is by obtaining the pure love of Christ that you are given power over sin, for when you are filled with this love you are changed completely and wholly, and you desire not sin, but desire the things of God continuously. That is not to say you will not be tempted, that is not to say you will not experience trials, that is not to say that the path is now easy, that is not to say you will not experience contradictions of the mind and heart, it is to say that you must continue on the path, laboring to bring others onto Him, serving Him and continually filling yourself with His light, seeking and thirsting after righteousness and not ceasing, not ever.

It is by exactness to the commandments of God that we will receive all these things, that for any of us to come to and know the Lord will require a sacrifice and an offering of yourselves in righteousness, and you will offer up a broken heart and contrite spirit, and further He promises that He will not leave you comfortless, that He and the Father will take up their abode with you, that in the palm of His hand and in the wrist the Father and Son will hold you up.

The Second Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the Patriarchal Grip or Sure Sign of the Nail, or Nail in the Sure Place has reference to your Calling of Election Made Sure, and also the Holy Spirit of Promise, whereas the First Token of the Aaronic Priesthood has reference to the Light of Christ, and the Second Token of the Aaronic Priesthood has reference to the Holy Ghost, and The First Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood  or Sign of the Nail has reference to the Holy Spirit.

Having received the Second Token of the Melchizedek Priesthood, Patriarchal Grip or Sure Sign of the Nail, and its accompanying token and sign along with the associated covenants, laws and blessings you are now prepared to be instructed in the true order of prayer which allows you to petition the Father at the throne of grace and receive answers at which point you will then be brought to the veil to converse wth the Lord He also sends true messengers that they may come and instruct you further before you are brought to converse with the Lord. Though this period of time and seeking, unlike the temple ritual which shows an immediate response by you coming to the veil and conversing with a fellow patron who stands at the veil as though he were the Lord himself that you were conversing with, the application of asking, seeking, and knocking in most instances requires you to struggle in body, mind and spirit before receiving.

“There are certain key words and signs belonging to the priesthood which must be observed in order to obtain the blessings.” (The Words of Joseph Smith, 20 March 1842, p. 108.)

Like dance, drama, music, poetry and thus temple rituals, their are many truths and layers therein for us to seek, they all have one thing in common they point to Christ and to whom we must become exactly like in order to be saved, for as Joseph taught in the Lectures on Faith that what constitutes a saved being, to be anything else from that is not to be saved and thus we see that all others must be exactly like that saved being or else they cannot be saved.

There is more to this token as with the others, obviously, but this is all I am at liberty to teach, having been told to teach their meanings so others may understand them and to know that these things do indeed point us to Christ, and are important for us today, that you may see that they teach us how to more perfectly approach Him, and How we can be recognized by Him, the tokens, signs, names, washing’s and anointing’s are an authoritative injunction, that if we will learn them, their meanings, and abide by what we learn, hearkening to the spirit, we can know by what means and power we are saved by and be enabled to walk back to His presence and part the veil.

As I said on the main page of the endowment home, the temple endowment is full and rich still, even today, even after parts of it have become corrupted, or removed from the temple rituals altogether we can still learn from them, they still point us to Christ and by seeking Him, He will reveal Himself to us.

These teachings come from my understanding and conversations with the Lord, from my inquiry to Him and asking Him what these tokens actually mean, why do we do this with our hands, what is their significance and what do they convey to us, why do we pray in the True order of Prayer with a specific sign at the altar and what does it mean, why don’t we pray with different signs at the altar etc… as we see in the temple ritual. I initially learned about these almost two years ago from my conversation with Him, I have since pondered, prayed and continue to learn from Him, He has now asked that I begin to teach them in the capacity that I am able too and according to my understanding, and with due diligence it is done and I have done as He has asked.

Of myself I am not perfect, but I know these things are from Him, that these things are given that we may have a more perfect understanding of how to approach Him and receive answers to our prayers and that the mystery of the endowment in part today may be revealed for the benefit of those who are the humble followers of Christ who know not where to look, that they, that you may look to the Son of God and live, that by faith you may see, walking in obedience to the commandments, doing the things He has told you that you should do, that by laying down your lives, even your good name, taking upon you His name and approaching Him with a broken heart and contrite spirit, that you may receive all those things that he will put upon you in due diligence and just as fast as you are able to receive them.

Whether I expound more on the endowment, the true order of prayer, the ceremony at the veil,  washings and anointings, second anointings, washing of the feet, or the washing of the feet, hands and face, the initiatory, the garment, wife revealing her new name to her husband, etc… is yet to be foreseen, and not by my will but by His will shall anything else be taught or expounded. These things ought to be remembered not forgotten or dismissed because they are largely had and taught among those that lay claim to His church while at the same time rejecting the Master themselves.

“Having a knowledge of God, we know how to approach him and ask, and he will answer.” (The Words of Joseph Smith, 7 April 1844, p. 345.)

I have taught what I have taught and the burden falls upon you to discover for yourselves hidden knowledge, the truths and the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, that by seeking, you may develop the faith to open the heavens and receive. For without knowledge, and revelation you cannot be saved, and you must know how to get it yourselves.
