“But before the great day of the Lord shall come, Jacob shall flourish in the wilderness, and the Lamanites shall blossom as the rose.”[1]

How then is this to be fulfilled, how then are you the Sons’ (daughters) of the Forest are to blossom as a rose, I would suggest it begins to be fulfilled by repentance and coming unto Him and entering in by the way, through being baptized in living waters in His name, taking upon yourself His name, the name of the Lamb of God, who is Jesus Christ, “and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.”[2]

The act of being baptized or buried in the water is the way in which you enter in at the gate, this is the voice of the Father unto you, and His Son to which Nephi speaks “concerning the doctrine of Christ”, the great God in heaven has declared His Son as the way, and to whom you should follow. Some teachings from the Book of Mormon, Nephi’s words are in Purple, the Fathers words are in Red, and Christ’s words in Blue starting from verse 9 through 21.

2 Nephi 31:9 – 21

9 And again, it showeth unto the children of men the straitness of the path, and the narrowness of the gate, by which they should enter, he [Christ} having set the example before them.

10 And he [Christ] said unto the children of men: Follow though me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father?

11 And the Father said: Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son.

12 And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do.

13 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism—yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel.

14 But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying: After ye have repented of your sins, and witnessed unto the Father that ye are willing to keep my commandments, by the baptism of water, and have received the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost, and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the tongue of angels, and after this should deny me, it would have been better for you that ye had not known me.

15 And I heard a voice from the Father, saying: Yea, the words of my Beloved are true and faithful. He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

16 And now, my beloved brethren, I know by this that unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God, he cannot be saved.

17 Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.

18 And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive.

19 And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.

20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

21 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.

Nephi knows what he is talking about, he has not only heard the voice of the Father and Son, but he has also seen them in a personal appearance, as indicated in verse 17. These are the words that they have spoke to Nephi, he is sharing his personal account of coming into their presence, he is teaching us the way by which we should enter, that enabled him to qualify to hear the words of the Father: “Ye shall have eternal life.”[3]

As a side note, this is also what is referred to as having your Calling of Election made sure. I will discuss this topic in greater detail at some other point.

Nephi experienced this in his mortality, before his death, he was redeemed from the fall of Adam and Eve with this promise from the Father.  He endured until the end of his probation, though for most people their probation in this life ends with their death, in this instance however, his mortal probation ended with the promise and assurance from the Father that he, Nephi, shall have eternal life. He was able to write of this experience in such a way as to teach us the way, by which we should enter, and also receive.

Do you believe it? I do…

Christ is the gate keeper, he employees no servant there, none[4]. Once you have entered in by the way, you are on the path. Be believing and be baptized, and receive a remission of your sins, by baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost. While man, may perform the ordinance of baptism, without the second part, which is performed only by the Lord Himself (the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost) – you have yet to enter in at the gate, the ordinance of your baptism is yet complete, some have received the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and knew it not[5]. It is through baptism of water and the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost that you receive a remission of your sins and become justified, it is by this that you covenant unto the Father that you will take upon yourself the name of Christ. This is the beginning of the path, not the end, nor the middle. This path will lead you to His presence, to receive a promise of eternal life, this I testify, I know to be true.

Do you desire to know the great God who created you, to know His perfect love for you, if so, repent, and seek the Lord and His will for you, enter in by the way that you may receive and come to a knowledge of your fathers who are in heaven, and of the promises and blessings that are held in reserve for you, that you may receive.  Enter in by the way, and blossom as a rose, take upon yourself His name, ye Sons’ (daughters) of the Forest – look to Christ and live, He is the way and there is NO other name given under heaven whereby you can be saved.
