I covered some of this before in my previous post, a portion of this bears mentioning again here for purposes of this post, the doctrines of baptisms.

“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. (Hebrew 6:1-3)

Noticing again in Hebrews the “doctrine of baptisms” (s)

Baptisms by water (immersion) for the remission of sins

Rebaptisms by water (immersion) purification, repentance, recommitting oneself to the Lord, or for health – i.e. physical healing, spiritually cleansing, fellowship, new beginnings

Baptism of Fire; (Spiritual)

and of the Holy Ghost (spiritual)

In addition to those I discussed earlier and recapped above, these other forms of baptisms known as Mikvah’s or washings for purification of sins and imperfections, unjust and unholy and not cleanliness or for the purposes of sanitary washing i.e. but washing of the hands, face and the feet as was observed by Abraham, Moses, Christ, and in our dispensation by Joseph Smith to prepare one for officiating in the ordinances, blessings, powers and priesthoods of the gospel etc… all things pertaining to a Holy Order as ordained by God to cite the believers minds toward God, and of the need to be Holy in our Hearts, and in our Actions, that His Law also be written upon our inward parts not just in our symbolic performances.

Baptisms or Mikvah’s the first of these have everything to do with water.

Repentance: Baptism by water for the remission of sins, a sign of repentance and obedience. 2 Nephi 31

Purification: Baptism for purification, repentance, as seen by those who were already members of Christ’s church, Moroni 6:1-4 were rebaptized, but purification also as was done with Abraham, Moses, Christ and Joseph i.e. washing of the hands, face and feet

Identified as Christ’s: Baptism by immersion identifies us as one with Christ, as a body of believers, through the act of being buried into the water and being brought forth out of the water symbolic of His burial and resurrection. (Alma 6:1-6)

Health: Baptism for Health, which restores us physically and cleanses us spiritually from sin (2 Kings 5:1-14)

These other baptisms, or Mikvah’s of the spirit are spiritual in nature and likewise as with the water the spirit covers us, or overshadows us, cleanses us and purifies us.

Baptism of fire (2 Nephi 31)

And of the Holy Ghost (2 Nephi 31, Mark 1:8)

Quickened by the Spirit (D&C 67:11) another type of purification, no unclean thing can dwell in the presence of God and live

Sufferings/Sacrifice, we learn His ways and become one with Him (D&C 101:34-9)

Sanctification, set apart from this world. (1 John 3:3, D&C 101:4-5, Alma 13:11)

These all serve to prepare us to stand before God (D&C 93:1), from the baptism of water the washings and anointing’s, the cleansing baptism of fire, and baptism of purification of the Holy Ghost, being quickened by the spirit and called upon the Lord to suffer with Him, He choosing our sacrifice that we will make to Him in righteousness (D&C 101:3-4) that we may be washed and cleaned by the blood of the lamb. (Moses 6:59-60).

These are then:

Repentance

Purification

Identified as Christ’s

Health, physical/spiritual

Fire, cleanses

Spirit, purifies

Quickened, by the spirit

Sufferings/Sacrifices

Sanctification

Now that I have listed these please do not take these as the absolute order of things in succession one from the other, some can happen out of sequence to our understanding and or simultaneously. You do need to be baptized by water by one having authority, else you are not justified before the Lord in obtaining these greater gifts (2 Nephi 31), those who have not entered in by the way cannot expect to be received by Him (2 Nephi 32), take upon yourselves the name of Christ in the manner in which He prescribed, that you may have eternal life.

Whatever your background is, we all have need of baptism and repentance, and all are invited to come unto Him. I, in particular write towards the remnant of the House of Jacob who are the Sons of Joseph, the Lamanite known today as the North American Indians. These are my people and I write to them that my words may be carried to them wherever they may be, in hopes they will repent and come unto Christ, and learn of the covenants of our fathers that were made to them by the Great Spirit anciently. But I also write to the whole of the House of Israel, not just Judah but all the tribes.

I write also to all who will hear, all who will seek Christ. Are we not Abrahams children? Then why contended with one another as though we were not, this to you especially the Arab and Jew, why spill the blood of Abraham! Do you not remember that Abraham is your father and that when you fight one another you are spilling his blood which is in you?

It is through sacrifice that we become like Christ, these things are meant to cleanse us every whit, to purify us, and prepare us to enter His presence. For some it will lead them to His presence while in this life and yet for others it may be after this life. This seems to depend upon how far you are willing to go and sacrifice all things that you hold dear, to obtain this gift and receive those promises. We truly limit ourselves.

A man who hedges up the way of another seeks to destroy the agency of that person and seeks to bring them under bondage of their power, but yet you do have power and soon as you get some knowledge you have great power, even greater power than some of those who would hedge up your way and those who continue on and gain greater knowledge cannot be held back from the truth having been filled with His light and are not brought back under bondage and captivity except they become fearful and begin to fear man more than they fear God. And these who hedge up the way, seek to control them by fear; these are they who would prohibit you from laying down your own course and road of salvation unto eternal life in this world, and also in the worlds to come through His Son Jesus Christ, these will say look to the Prophets or in other words look to the arm of flesh, when the Father says look to my Son and Live. They will want to make you subject unto them, to follow them and be obedient to them, not looking further than beyond that which they will permit, how many times have we heard “leave the mysteries of God alone” you are not to question them but be obedient to them, they become your masters, yet God who is above all calls to you and commands you to come unto Him.

Do not be fearful of men, trust in Him and He will guide you, He will strengthen your cause and will lift you up and you will find that you are no longer under this bondage or the bondage of man. You will know the Lord, having proven yourself through sacrifice and will stand in His presence. Nothing in my opinion is more damnable than when one attains to this knowledge, and receives greater light and then allows themselves to be overcome and ruled by those with less knowledge and light because of their fear of men, because they suppose they have some authority – that they must hand over their agency and by so doing disobey God and refuse to enter into His presence and allow themselves to become subjected to the abuses of men, not overcoming fear but instead being overcome by it, and instead of becoming rulers in the Kingdom of God they are ruled over and what light they had received is taken away until they have nothing left of what they once had. . As soon as you can see a little and gain a little light, you begin to break free, why stop there?

2 Nephi 28:30-32

For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have. Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost. Wo be unto the Gentiles, saith the Lord God of Hosts! For notwithstanding I shall lengthen out mine arm unto them from day to day, they will deny me; nevertheless, I will be merciful unto them, saith the Lord God, if they will repent and come unto me; for mine arm is lengthened out all the day long, saith the Lord God of Hosts.

Come unto Christ, all are invited, He wants to prepare us to receive Him… we need to be purified, He can make us pure. We of our own strength can never be purified, He has given us these things these baptisms, these washings, Mikvah’s to illustrate our need to always be cleansed by Him, to be renewed in Him and made anew daily. Do His works, care for the poor and needy, sacrifice for Him whatsoever He calls upon you to sacrifice, be obedient, love more, and forgive always. He will enlarge you, His light will fill you with knowledge and He will cleanse you by fire by the power of the Holy Ghost.

God is not a stranger, He speaks to us daily. We just have to learn to hear His words. How He speaks to me will be different than How He speaks to you, but He does indeed speak.

I know that He lives, I know these things to be true, that if we will obey His voice and repent and be baptized in His name the Holy Ghost will lead us to Christ, and Christ will lead us to the Father.
