The Holy Order

Joseph Smith:

“God will not acknowledge that which He has not called, ordained, and chosen. In the beginning God called Adam by His own voice. “And the Lord called unto Adam and said unto him, where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, and hid myself.” (See Genesis 3:9-10.) Adam received commandments and instructions from God: this was the order from the beginning.”[1]

Hence this order, the Holy Order, having been established from the beginning as seen in the drama that unfolds in the retelling of the events in the Garden of Eden, that he, Adam, was called by the voice of God, whereby we can also see, from this pattern that we too are to be called into this holy order in a similar and like manner as was Adam, even by the voice of God Himself calling unto us.

This Holy Order is not by the will of man or men, or by the ordination of man or men into this order, but rather, it is by the calling of God unto you, in His own voice, according to His own will and pleasure. It is an order, that Joseph Smith himself was and is part of, an order even from the beginning.

The drama that unfolds in the Garden of Eden is retold to teach us about ourselves and our relationship to God, being separated from Him and His presence in this world, but that He God did come unto Adam, and he received instructions, commandments, and covenants from God. These commandments and instructions have been taught down through the generations until it became lost, to be restored to us today that we too like unto Adam, and others before us, might know who to look to receive instruction, to whom is the bringer of our salvation, to whom all these things point us to, that we also might know, and become qualified or proven to receive or be called into this order by His own voice.

“Now Melchizedek was a man of faith, who wrought righteousness; and when a child he feared God, and stopped the mouths of lions, and quenched the violence of fire. And thus, having been approved of God, he was ordained an high priest after the order of the covenant which God made with Enoch, it being after the order of the Son of God; which order came, not by man, nor the will of man; neither by father nor mother; neither by beginning of days nor end of years; but of God; And it was delivered unto men by the calling of his own voice, according to his own will, unto as many as believed on his name.”[2]

How did Melchizedek qualify? What we know about him from the above, he was a man of faith, he wrought, or in other words, performed works of righteousness, how was this done, what works? When he was a child he feared God, or rather revered God and had respect for His commandments and was obedient to His laws, ordinances, and covenants. He became qualified or was “approved of God” to be received into this Holy Order. This order did not and cannot come by man or men, or by mother or father, nor the will of man or men, it only comes from God, and it is “delivered unto men by the calling of His own voice” unto you. Whose voice?! God’s voice, just as it was with Adam in the beginning, we see this pattern is again repeated with Melchizedek.

Who else, or where else is this pattern revealed?

“Thus we behold the keys of this Priesthood consisted in obtaining the voice of Jehovah that He talked with him [Noah] in a familiar and friendly manner, that He continued to him the keys, the covenants, the power and the glory, with which He blessed Adam”.[3]

What about today, or in our day, what about Joseph Smith? Didn’t he seek God in prayer with a specific question; didn’t God call unto Him in His own voice?[4] Again the pattern continues, even through all the dispensations of time has this pattern remained the same, has been and ever will be.

In the Book of Mormon, we read “Alma went and began to declare the word of God unto the church…. according to the revelation of the truth of the word… according to the spirit of prophecy which was in him, according to the testimony of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who should come to redeem his people from their sins, and the holy order by which he was called.”[5]

If you can see it, there is a pattern or theme being developed throughout the scriptures, especially the Book of Morning, to show us the way by which we should enter, and to whom we should look, and to whom these things come from – not of men or man, but of God, and that He God desires all to come unto Him, and be personally acquainted with Him, and that each of those who love Him and keep His commandments He qualifies, and He calls unto them in His timing, and according to His own will,[6] and by this way we may know Him, and know that He is the same today, yesterday and forever.[7] and from the Doctrine and Covenants 11:21 “…first seek to obtain my word (voice of God calling unto you), and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.

False Prophets and False Teachers

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”[8]

Some of these are those who did not wait to first obtain the word of God,[9] by His own voice calling unto them, these are they who have not been called into this Holy Order, and thus “God will not acknowledge that which He has not called, ordained, and chosen”,[10] neither is one called to this order according to the will of man or men, or of man or men or of the father or the mother,[11] it cannot be inherited, nor pronounced upon you by any. It must come from Him, who is without beginning and is without end, from everlasting to everlasting. Some of these are those who set themselves up as a light unto the world.[12]

Christ is the only example for us to follow

“The world is full of people who are willing to tell us, “Do as I say.” Surely we have no lack of advice givers on about every subject. But we have so few who are prepared to say, “Do as I do.” And, of course, only one in human history could rightfully and properly make that declaration. Even the best of mortals are flawed in some way or another. None could serve as a perfect model nor as an infallible pattern to follow, however well-intentioned they might be. Only Christ can be our ideal. Only He can say without any reservation, “follow me, learn of me. I am the way, the truth, and the light. Look unto me and ye shall live.” Let us follow the Son of God in all ways. Let us make Him our guide. We must know Christ better than we know Him; then will we drink water springing up unto eternal life.”[13]

From the account of Matthew in the New Testament we read “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”[14]

We see then this pattern being repeated even with Christ and so it is today. This is the way by which He calls those who love Him into the Holy Order, and by His own voice, He calls unto them, Adam, “where art thou?” or to Joseph Smith “This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” or our Christ and Savior “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”. This order, even from the beginning is the pattern by which the Lord calls His servants, He ordains them, talks with them, and calls them by His own Voice.

Will you refuse the good word of God unto you, and His invitation to you, and not receive of Him and enter in, by the way, to be baptized in His name, by one who has this authority from Him.

Will you refuse to labor with all your heart, might and strength? Knowing in your heart that you have erred, will you deny that Holy One, who calls unto you by His own voice, and not answer Him, when you should say: Here I am Lord, I hid, because I was ashamed, but I am here now.

Will you wait to repent at that final hour, refuse to come to a remembrance of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and acknowledge Him. Will you remain filthy still, knowing His arm is extended towards you all the day long, that the Heavens are again open to you for this short time, to gather in the honest seekers of truth, and the pure in heart. Will you chose this world and all its pleasures over that great God who sits enthroned above in everlasting glory and knows your heart, and your every act. Will you shrink to defend Him and His honor to those who draw near to Him with lips, but hearts are far removed from Him. Will you not point them to Christ, and say He is the way.

Sons and daughters of the Forest, my native ancestors – throw down your disguises and come in remembrance of the Fathers who are in Heaven who await your return to Him who sits enthroned and be baptized in His name. Gentiles repent and be baptized in His name that you might be grafted in with the natural branches of the House of Israel.

Seek His face, know Him, and qualify your selves that He may call you by His own voice. You remnant of Joseph, of Jacob, of the House of Israel, can you not feel the power of these words I speak unto you, His words that swell up inside of your chest and heart – do they not burn! Be mighty unto the Lord, declare His words, remind the world of the judgments to come, and of the need to repent. Be not ashamed or fearful of men in declaring His words.

It is my witness to you, if you will seek Him, you shall find Him, and He will come unto you and call you by His own voice, that where He is, you will be also, and you will be called and will partake of His love and Glory. This I promise, if you will call upon Him in the name of His Son with a broken heart, you will not be forsaken; you will be lifted up and blessed for your faith and He will lead and guide you back to His presence, you must do the works of righteousness as others have done before you. Even He Christ was baptized to fulfill all righteousness, and these words are declared again to us this day to repent and be baptized.

Place no men or man, or flesh between you and the Lord, He will come to you, and He will lead, guide and bless you, be faithful and you will not be left comfortless.

In His Holy Name, I declare these things to you by the voice of the spirit that is in me, and that Christ is the way, and the only name under heaven given to us to whom we should look to for salvation and to whom we should follow, for only He can be our example. Amen.
